Antique Edwardian German Miniature Silver “Friendship” Book Charm Dated 1904
An antique Edwardian German silver miniature book charm that opens to reveal two silver gilt pages inside with one engraved “25 Nov 1904” along with monogrammed initials and the other page engraved “Freundschaft und Lieber Im schonen Verein Erhalten dem leben dem jugendschein” which roughly translates to “Friendship and love is a beautiful association that preserves youth”. I haven’t been able to find out for definite what “Caton” is on the front but it may possibly be a version of Catherine. A super piece with wonderful repousse Art Nouveau decoration.
It measures 22mm (7/8ths of an inch) by 19mm (6/8ths of an inch), excluding the suspension bale, and weighs 7.6 grammes. Unmarked but tested as at least 800 grade silver with a secure hinged clasp to the side. It is in lovely condition just quite tarnished in the hard to reach areas.
